The Safer London Problem Solving Awards are hosted annually in London to promote and celebrate problem solving across the Metropolitan Police area. The awards are a partnership between the Metropolitan Police Authority, Safer London Foundation, Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police Service. The winners of the main award are presented with a cheque for £10,000, which they use to fund community projects in their borough.
Harrow Borough - Kenton Wests 100 Day Partnership Project
This initiative saw the regeneration of an old railway line called the Belmont flyer, following a consultation process involving the community panel, joint agencies and Safer Neighbourhood surveys, which identified it as an area of concern.
Analysis of Safer Neighbourhood surveys and public feedback showed that the residents of Kenton West had a high and disproportionate fear of crime. The regeneration has brought about a renewed confidence in the area, highlighted in community surveys and business KINs, letters of praise from members of the public and local agencies as well as a notable and consistent fall in crime rates in the area. There are now over 2500 children benefiting from the new nature trail, assisting easy and safe access to schools, and to the local parks.
