In the aftermath of the may 4th 2007 F5 tornado that destroyed 95% of the town, claiming 9 lives, the town of Greensburg Kansas began to rebuild. With the help of BNIM, a Kansas City-based architecture group with an emphasis in sustainable construction, Greensburg began an ambitious program to rebuild the entire town to be environmentally sustainable.

But that isn't the interesting part to us. What Troy and I (Phil) found most interesting was that a team of 22 architecture students from The University of Kansas had gone down to Greensburg and designed and build an environmentally sustainable art/community center. It was the first public building to go up in the town and was not only a testament to their hard work and skill, but also to the town's commitment to rebuild itself not only better than before, but better than any other city in America.
