The 3/5 clause was written into the constitution to disallow slave holding states from counting slaves for representation purposes. Do you seriously think that if they could count slaves that it would have stared the CBC? No, they would have elected more of what they had in congress….Learn history you idiot. Beck explained it well and you just didn’t hear him because you had your head up your ass.

It wasen't 3/5ths of a person it was 3/5ths of the slave "population" which made it HARDER to get a pro slavery Representative into Congress. @kbc89usna So it was a mistake to tell slave states “no, if you are not going to free your slaves then they cannot be counted 1to1 as citizens so that you can stack the deck in your slave holding favor”? because that is in effect what the 3/5 clause says. They were great men and great leaders who did great things and gave to us the greatest nation to ever grace the face of Gods earth.

@kbc89usna They knew what they were doing. They knew that the Constitution was the weapon by which the tyranny of slavery would be defeated and 78 years later it was. Just because they didn’t cure the entire nations ills in one fail swoop in now way detracts from their morals or character. How long would slavery have lived in the south if the nation had split in 1787? Would slave states allied with England in 1812?

This video perpetuates ignorance. The three-fifths clause was designed to reduce the number of House seats of the southern states. The slavery south wanted to count slaves as 1 person, thus giving the pro-slavery south a dominating control in congress. Though who cares about the facts when you can demagogue the issue?
