Ruhlmann was a very, very good horse. He was solid at 3, better at age 4, then hit his peak at age 5 in 1990. He beat eventual Horse of the Year, Criminal Type, twice early in 1990, winning the gr.1 Santa Anita Handicap and the gr.2 San Bernardino. He put in another huge run in the gr.1 Pimlico Special, but Criminal Type was just able to run him down to win by a neck.
Of "classic" distance horses, Ruhlmann was one of the fastest of the last 20 years. Blazing speed!
