Very cool, I just read on wikipedia that there are about 16,000 speakers of Choctaw, that is a pretty good number compared to some tribes! Do a lot of you still speak it amongst each other?

@pazuzu126 Thank you! Unfortunately, I have not encountered too many people who I can speak with. However, I am working in Ada for the summer and I have encountered some Chickasaw elders who I have spoken to in Choctaw. Let me be the first to say, it was such a heart felt moment.

By the way, are you learning the Choctaw language or doing a project around the Choctaw people or something?

@joekicker51 At the time, I was just looking for a Choctaw sample to show someone what it sounds like. I'm starting a Ph.D at the University of Arizona in August, and I'll probably be doing a lot of work on American languages while I'm there. Hopefully one that hasn't been very well studied or documented.

To answer your question, no, the Choctaw Nation does not issues out per cap money. The reasoning behind this is because the Choctaws, similar to my tribe, the Chickasaw Nation, put more money into education, health, and economic development which in turn keeps the money circulating within the tribe, rather than to the citizens which would leave the nation.

@joekicker51 I have always wanted to learn Choctaw because all through my life I wanted to learn my great grandparents and great great grandparents language but nobody in my family seemed that interested but I am still interested even though those grandparents are long gone physically. Do you have any suggestions?
