Today in Clay County (IA), an unprecedented number of families are living below the poverty line where the average family income for the poor has declined steadily since 1967.

These individuals are in desperate need of housing, food, and clothing. Community resources are stretched to the breaking point, and most shelters have extended waiting lists.

Children are the most negatively affected, and nationally, 50% of all children live in single-parent homes for at least part of their childhood. These children are five times more likely to live below the poverty line than children who live with both parents. Many of these children living in poverty will experience lives of gangs, drugs and crime. Cities and towns will continue to see an increase in crime, drugs and poverty. Problems that a decade ago only affected the inner city will increasingly affect all Americans, even here in Spencer.

In addition to food, clothing, job training and healthcare, we would provide educational programs, parenting classes and after-school activities. We would also provide residential recovery programs for men, women and teens. All of these programs would be available free of charge to anyone in need.

The Dream Center will be a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that provides social services and outreach programs designed to meet physical, spiritual, and long-term needs.

One of the first programs we will implement is a Youth Center - a safe, clean place for young people in the area to hang out. Supervised by volunteers and paid staff, the Youth Center would feature pool tables, foosball, arcade games, TVs and a snack bar. Spencer is in desperate need of a place like this!

Part of the beautiful dining facilities on the main floor would be utilized as a coffee house serving gourmet coffee, with live music and comfortable overstuffed furniture. It would be a great place for the community to gathernot at all a church kind of place.just a nice warm inviting and comfortable environment.

We will also provide food, clothing, shelter, life rehabilitation, education and job training, and much more through our ministries and outreaches. We will reach hundreds, if not thousands of hurting and needy children, families and adults across all races and cultures each week.

Striving to help solve moral decay, crime, drugs, gangs, homelessness and poverty epidemics that exist in our nation, the vision of the Spencer Dream Center is to see hurting people come to know a new life through the efforts of our staff, volunteers, and recently rehabilitated individuals whose lives have been dramatically changed.

The Dream Center, founded by Pastor Kevin Grimes and DaySpring Assembly of God, will be an entirely separate non-profit corporation. We will join together with other churches, non-profit organizations, corporations, foundations & individuals of many faiths from around the world with the common purpose of meeting the spiritual and socioeconomic needs of this city and surrounding areas.
