@Danielpinov They had to go through 3 or 4 people before finally deciding to have Coppola's daughter play Mary, so basically she was a last resort. It wasn't that she was first chosen for the part. They initially wanted Julia Roberts to play the part, but unfortunately she had other obligations.

to love this movie u must understand it first. I didn't want to watch that movie so long. After I saw it I told: OMFG! that is a great one! Critics are fool. They never know what is good and not. I saw many film what I liked and they didn't. So I never listen to them.
