Show us your inner Maccabee this Chanukah. Do a world of good, make a world of difference.
The Jewish Federations of North America represents 157 Jewish Federations and 400 independent Jewish communities. Your local Federation funds and supports a community-wide network of organizations that do two things: 1. Care for people in need here at home, in Israel and around the world, and 2. Nurture and sustain Jewish life and learning today and into the future. The Jewish Federation system also has a long track record of mobilizing great resources during times of crisis.
With your help, we ensure that the programs, institutions and values that enrich the fabric of our Jewish community remain vibrant and strong. Find your local Federation at http://www.jewishfederations.org/jewish-resources.aspx
@indech They were fighters. Lets not get carried away with these confusions with words. They fought with the best of their abilities and didn't just wait and say well lets someone else take care of it (like waiting for a "Moshiah"). Also let me ask you 1 thing where does the name Yehuda Hamakabee appear anywhere?

@TagMahirTzedek No. Again, they were not warriors. There never was such thing as priest-warrior. You're making confusion. One thing is to be a warrior (as a 'profession'), another thing is to go to war when the Jewish People is in danger. This are completely different things. They didn't spend time in gym, therefore, they cannot look like Hulk Hoogan. They had no armors or even advanced weaponry. They were simply priests who went to battlefield against the mightiest world power at the time.

@indech They were priests and warriors. They were the good Jews who stayed Jewish and fought against the Greeks and the Hellenized Jews. Had they been alive today most of these groups (like the "Jewish federation" and the UJA, Bnai Briths, and the secular regime in Israel) would have condemned them.

Sorry, but the Maccabees were not even close to looking like warriors... they were priests... that's part of Chanuka's miracle...
