Video highlights from N2XF aircraft's six week flight around the United States beginning July 9, 2010. Most of the video was taken from the cockpit during the flight using a small hand-held camera capable of both still and HD video imager recording. Prominent highlights of the trip included Pensacola Beach, the Grand Canyon, San Diego, Palos Verdes, Santa Catalina island, Hollywood, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Oakland hills and the Napa valley, Mt Hood, Puget Sound, Walla Walla farmlands, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, and the Rocky Mountain front range near Denver.

  • We're currently cruising at 18,000 and 200 KTAS on 14 gph fuel flow (for 16 mpg fuel efficiency). It takes about 20 minutes to climb to 18,000 feet, and we 'get that back' in the cruise decent from 18,000 when it's time to land. We're still working on lowering our cylinder head temperatures. That should allow us to cruise at 25,000 ft and 230 KTAS on 17 gph fuel flow. Our primary usage goal is long distance (1200 NM), high speed (250 KTAS), efficient (20 mpg) cross country trips, IFR or VFR.

  • @johng321ify I mean you "just fly a cessna 172"!!! That must be tough, right ?

I would kill to fly a cessna 172. That's the point. lol

  • @insightfu lol whats that suppost to mean?

  • @johng321ify awww, poor you!

  • Now you're making me long for the days when I had a plane (a 1975 AA5 Traveler, sold 2 years ago). That is quite an incredible machine you built. What is the cruising altitude you typically use? For me, I would cruise at 9,500 to 10,500, but it took a LONG time for a Traveler to get that high (3,500 to 6,500, not bad, 6,500 to 9,500... thirty minutes). ;)

  • Congrats. Nice video and great plane. Looking forward to more trips! 38CF
