Ever since Karl Rove made his unholy Republican alliance with the Religious Right, Christianity has been suffering from a severe decline. It doesn't help when you have people like Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell who made their careers by selling a hateful version of religion that abandoned all of the principles which Jesus taught. Mike Papantonio discusses these and other reasons that have contributed to the decline of American Christianity.

  • Christianity promoting peace over war and siding with the poor over the rich? Wow, you'd have to go *way* back to find that, 1900 years minimum.

  • You can be spiritual without having to subscribe to Christianity. That is something that most Christians have a hard time wrapping their heads around.

  • There is a reason almost all of the worlds greatest thinkers and scientists are Atheist. These type of people see reality for what it is and not how some fool told them to view it. Think for yourself and leave god in the past where it belongs along with all the other dead gods. Grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Religion is poison. Useless nonsense and garbage, its needs to end before it ends us.

  • Im an atheist, but I'd appreciate if youd do all these things

  • These people also do not believe, most of them anyways, that smoking, drinking at all, women being in leadership, women having abortions when needed, birth control, masturbation, premarital sex in all cases, listening to "controversial" music genres, and many if not most of them do not think it is sinful to be homosexual or have a partner in that lifestyle. Denominations like the Episcopal Church, United Church or Christ, and ELCA. And, of course, they are often disparaged by the fundies.

  • It's shit like this that makes me glad that within Christianity there is a minority "Mainline Protestant" metagroup that on average, at least since the 1980s or 1970s, has been majority moderate-to-liberal. They are people who preach the Gospel and the actual teachings and love of Christ, whilst at the same time trying to live it (including in work for the poor, AIDS victims, abused women and children, homosexuals, and other oppressed groups).

  • Amen to this. Unfortunately, you do have these nutjob fundie-mentalists who will murder abortion doctors, blow up their clinics, go into a UU congregation and shoot people for "being too liberal" (God forbid), and drastically larger numbers of conservative or fundamentalist "Christians" who hate, speak out against, etc. those who happen to be gay/lesbian, who needed to get an abortion for rape/incest/threat to their health, or for allowing equal treatment of women.

  • @WizardJim what??? no u dont have to go back 1900 yrs just look at the current chrsitian movement in america. siding w/ the rich n supporters of preemptive war

  • The beliefs of Scientology are no more ridiculous than rising from the grave, turning water into wine, talking snakes, walking on water, turning people into pillars of salt or noah's bloody ark, you all talk bollocks and the sooner your all gone from our world the better.
