my 5 months old german shepherd Jeck

I am so concerning my dog's back leg,It looks a bit weak. When he stand still, his hocks are almost stick together but he does not feel any pain and still run and jump. Can anyone advice !!!

It's overbreeding. If you look back in history german shepherds did not have the "slanted" back. I will never support breeders that accept this type of breeding that makes the dog have severe lower back problems, hip joint problems, knee weakness and early onset of arthritis. He does need to see a vet but his condition is genetic. Prolly by the time hes maybe 4 or 5 he might need pain meds.

Yea show lines usualy have bad back problems it genetic. I am getting a gsd from working lines a Czech German Shepehrd. When I first found out about them I didnt know there were different kinds but I did more reaserch and I am thankful for not getting one when I didnt know all about the breed.

Hi. One thing you can do if you are very concerned is bring him to a vet for a set of hip x rays because this is the only true way to tell, what is happening in there. A person can speculate, but the x ray doesn't lie, you know what I mean. Some dogs have very poor movement, but solid hips. Remember a lot of people say things and really don't know, I'm sure you are away of this. Good luck

@superfatty1155 Larger dogs bones do not fully develop until 18 months, and sometimes not even then, before that they can be pretty 'floppy' looking, my pup is 9 months and is a little wobbly and floppy at times, but is growing into a strong sturdy dog! But he does have a strange gait even at his age, the breeding of a dog is something you need to be careful about, especially with this breed, not any dog is worthy of breeding.

He has a genetic condition caused by poor breeding selection. The two top comments are right. Someone wanted to make money but does not care about dogs so they bred him carelessly and now his back and hips are deformed. Slanted backs are cosmetically appealing but cause severe problems for the dog and the owners who have to care for the pain that the dog gets. Looks like hip dysplasia and it is serious and will cause pain and may need surgery.

This is how show GSD walks its all good...i guess it was even worst when he was a puppy? i mean 3-4 months...he will get better and better

i feed my pup vitamins so his back legs could be strong and he's very healthy. just walk him, play with him in ur backyard so he can keep is back legs stronger . gsd are very active dogs
