The first in our series of Remakes of Movies We Havn't seen brings us the 1988 "Rowdy" Roddy Piper vehicle "Hell Comes to Frogtown." The only information we had about the movie prior to filming it was a synopsis written by The Onion A.V. Club's Marcus Gilmer:
"A soldier's work is never done."
Around the same time as They Live, Piper also starred in Hell Comes To Frogtown, in which he plays a man who has to fight off frog people to impregnate ladies. No, really. It's sometime in the future, and a nuclear apocalypse has left the world with few fertile men and women left. One such breeder still left, er, standing, is Sam Hell (Piper). Hell is coerced by the government, bent on repopulating the post-apocalypse, to oblige their needs and fitted with a codpiece that will explode if he doesn't obey orders, like The Running Man neck bombs except for his penis, which is now "government equipment." The codpiece measures Hell's physiological signs and a flap opens allowing him to procreate with the available fertile women. The problem? The women he's meant to procreate with are being held captive as sex slaves by nuclear mutant frog people. Hell's mission? To rescue the women and impregnate them all. Horny women, arms dealers, frog people: It's a tall task, and the fate of the human race depends on Hell's... abilities. But if anyone can be trusted to perpetuate the species, it has to be Piper, right?
