We recently had Floren Munteanu's Sphinx Search product version 2 installed on AVForums.com.
Here is a demo for those vBulletin owners lucky enough to have a busy forum but struggling with either the vanilla search, or the free plugin found at vBulletin.org.
Visit http://www.avforums.com to try the search yourself.
Get more information about the Spinx Search product at http://www.yqed.com.

  • @ashconnor but plugging it into vBulletin software, adding extra features and then installing it onto your servers for you involves considerable work and considering the benefits it gives you is very reasonable. If you have a tin pot forum and no money, you'll find it hard to find the money, perhaps. But if you have a thriving community, value the experience of your visitors and want the best search going, then it's absolutely 100% worth it.

  • @AVForumsTV Actually Spinx is rarther well documented, customised or not $2000 is a steep price.

  • @ashconnor The implementation of Sphinx is highly customised and worth every penny. To make that comment, you clearly do not understand what is involved.

  • Wow $2000 to implement an open source search engine.

  • I agree with your analysis of IB's strangling of the software. However, the search product, now called Searchlight, will work on other forums in future versions. And anyway, we will be sticking with 3.8.3 for the foreseeable future, so we will be continuing to use it.

  • Given the whole insane pricing fiasco going on with Internet Brands and vBulletin software, they might as well call this search the 'sphincter.' You guys are better off creating a search for forums other than vbulletin since it looks like this company's policies are sending customers headed for the exits in a hurry.

  • a quick demo lol, this goes for 9 minutes lol. anyway, thanks for the demo, I am about to watch it.
