i'm one of those city folks who doesnt know a lot about cows but i do know a lot about birth. i'm just curious - do they have to use that equipment every time? do they use that equipment on other animals or just cows?

nope, one doesn't have to use that equipment everytime. some cows have their babies the natural way, however, like humans, need assistance every once and a whie.
