In this video I remove the RCA input and output jacks on the Realistic Concertmate MG-1 by Moog Music and replace them with 1/4" mono ins and outs.

Since this synthesizer is an older, entirely analogue synthesizer, it is relatively easy to make these modifications. All you need is a soldering iron, some solder, maybe a solder remover, some wire, a resistor or two, and just a little bit of time.

  • I had no idea Moog made a keyboard for Radio Shack...

  • @douro20 i don't think Moog Music actually produced the synthesizer for Realistic, but Bob Moog did design and produce the famous filter, inside the mg-1 synthesizer. if moog did make a "keyboard for radioshack" i would really feel bad for those that have a "keyboard" with the letters "m" "o" "o" and "g" on it... those things are quite expensive.

  • kinda left us hangin' at the end, describing your setup but then cutting the video right when you were playing the synth----why, man, why?? nice mod though.

  • i did do the filter input mod as well. my bad on the short cut. i am playing the synth in one of my other videos.

  • Could oyu have two outputs and jack one into the audio in (may be with some fx's on the way to it) to overdrive the filter ?

  • @kerikino Actually, I've heard that the MG-1 is almost the same as the Moog Rogue, which wasn't designed by Bob Moog himself and that the MG-1 was made by Moog for Realistic to distribute in Radio Shacks. So it is basically a Moog, and yes it is cheaper.

  • @kerikino Do you mean that you can play audio through the Moog and then filter it like in Dance music?

(I'm just getting started with synthesizers and there's a MG1 on our national auction page and I really like the sound!)

  • You need to change those electrolytic cap's whle it's opened up!

  • Not sure if you've gone through the tune up procedure per the service manual, but I've been having a hard time finding op amp U1007 AKA LF353N AKA LM1558. You're supposed to measure the voltage at pin 1 but I can't find the damn IC because the naming convention in the service manual and the actual board are not 100% matched. There is no U1007 on the circuit board! Thanks.

  • Lol at you burning yourself :')

But otherwise a really useful video :D

  • i did the filter input mod, yes

  • kind of.
