I picked this little darling out as my 'best grown/most perfect strawberry'.

Unfortunately, my video skills don't equal my growing skills as the strawb is a bit out of focus and you can't see it's true beauty!

I was so enamoured with the perfection of this strawberry, I didn't even speak, just turned the thing around in my hand.

Of course, I can't really claim any skill in growing these wonderful fruits. They grew themselves. And I am very grateful to the little loves for that. Believe me, I thanked those little red souls as I munched (slowly and joyfully) through them.

And I even felt they thanked me for their delayed demise, as this year I'd saved them from the pigeons and mice by covering them in garden fleece. Not aesthetically beautiful, but fleece is very effective if you want to harvest any fruits (or brassicas for that matter) for yourself .

I fed the creatures at my allotment with ALL my strawberries last year. This year it's my turn. Anyway, they are welcome to the blackberries that grow over the roof of the shed, beyond my reach.

There is at least one bird who has built a nest in the ivy, bramble, and hawthorn foliage of my shed. I hear it rustling and see it flying in and out. Literally, a 'wise old bird'.

That little bird not only has a place of shelter and thorny protection but also, on tap, has an abundance of food from blackberries, and perhaps, the spiders that live in the ivy.

I've suddenly thought that the shape of strawberries reminds me of hearts - no wonder they are associated with love!

  • @turelsut1 Thanks! yes, this is one of mine :-)

  • Yes, I grew this one myself! Am looking forward to a few months time when they ripen again (they are very green at the moment, yet still the birds or the mice have been nibbling them off their stalks!)

  • What a lovely strawberry. I guess from your allotment (Hobby garden)
