@simonzon I dont wish to nit pick because you are essentially right, but 'Large scale picking' doesnt really happen, the authorities would stomp down hard if anyone tried.
As for checking with the authorities where it would be OK to pick them? lol, they would invite you to the local nick for 'a map' and a chat, involving conspiracy to supply a restricted substance (they would start on the assumption that you plan to dry them, they are only legal when freshly picked and if the land owner agreed).

Picking mushrooms in low numbers is not a problem, but wide scale harvesting poses problems: mushrooms are a forest's recyclers, and help to process decaying organisms into nutrients for the soil and other living things. They have symbiotic relationships with plants and if everyone took mushrooms this balance would be in jeapordy. It is best to familiarise yourself with the eco-system in question, and if possible check with whichever authorities are responsible for the area.

@simonzon Just dont tell the Authorities, its much better all round, if they know where they grtow the ground is sprayed and no Fungi grow there again, they did it to Hyde park after too many people kept getting caught, no no mushrooms of any kind grow, well not last time I looked.
