From http://www.witness.org For 16 years, WITNESS has harnessed the power of video to advance human rights. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10th, we've put together a short video with different WITNESS staff talking about images that opened their eyes to human rights abuses around the world.

Now we want to hear from you:

What image opened your eyes to human rights? Was it an image or video that gave you hope, or did it show you how much further we needed to go and inspire you to take action?

  • When you fight back and defend your own rights, dignity, honor, name, traditions and especially your own Land, they will simply call you Terrorist. And the media is what people believe in, not what is going beyond your struggle.

Sadly, same what happend in my country...

  • I remember being 8 years old, watching the news with my family, when the first images of young and very malnourished Bosnian male refugees were shown sitting inside these cages of barbed wires. There were soldiers with weapons dressed in military wear walking around them. Guarding them. As if these weak men could do anything. I remember asking why, and not getting sufficient answers. Or an answer that I quite understood. That image still haunts me whenever I think about wars and its destruction.

  • human rights are used to prepare wars ! As in Libya. Anything you know about Libya and Gaddafi is wrong.

  • ignored now+in future history:

LIBYA- NATO- rebels: ethnic cleansing of the town of Tawerga with 10,000 inhabitans !

Look how intelligently the newspaper manipulates ethnic cleansing in the title !

telegraph. co. uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8754375/Gaddafis-ghost-town-after-the-loyalists-retreat.html officer of the rebels: "We said if they didn't go, they would be conquered and imprisoned. Every single one of them has left, and we will never allow them to come back."

  • as a human rights studies student, i love this video. it's been shown as the introduction to half of my classes this semester. i love what witness does, i'm glad this organization exists. i can't wait to be good enough to work for it.

  • fuck america people did build the talibans to make problem in afghanistan, fuck america

  • The whole video is so touching ....especially because I was born on December 10th

  • This world is all jacked up. seriously.

  • nice vid, but dont bother. The world is a shithole

  • Human Rights are bestowed onto us by the Laws of Nature at conception. Universal Declaration is manmade edicts labeled as rights implemented, at will, by an oligarchy.
