A little solo on the cajon. Its a Meinl Headliner series Cajon. Its easy to use and tunable. It has a lovely snare sound to it and if tuned right a deep bass too.
Sounds best with a bass drum mic at the back and a sm57 at the front.

The tips of your fingers work well all around the front of the cajon, aswell as the palm of your hand.

  • I need some help. I picked one up yesterday. I can't adjust the sizzle right at all. I've gone from tight to very loose and all that happens is annoying long rattler after any thing is hit on the play face.

  • Sorry for the late reply. i've found if you tune it on the front bottom at bit loose but the top tight then you get a good sound, you just have to get rid of the bad frequency hum which gives the long rattle. its the same principle for a normal snare or tom when tuning really. i think you'll always get a small rattle but i think that adds a nice effect, its how you use it!

you could always put some gaffer inside to stop the rattle but it might hinder the overall sound.
