@justforever96 The most common reason for starting the right engine first, on a twin engine aircraft, or the #2 engine (numbered 1 through 4 begining from the far right side, or starboard side, of the aircraft) is that the right engine (#2 engine) is the closest engine to the location of the batteries and as such has shorter battery cables and this creates less resistance and chance of overheating the cables and reduces the possibility of starting a fire or draining the battery before starting.

@justforever96 Sorry dudes for the misunderstanding, Off course I guess that they don't say right engine just for fun ;), I actually did a highlitght on the sentence..
The smile ":)" may have been perceived as ironical, it was not, just some bad habits from french humour. (the sentence they chose to make it stick in pilot's minds)

I always enjoy watching these old instructional videos...it's just impressive how complex it was to fly these things. For those of us who don't even remember how to use a choke in a carbureted engine, this sure is a horse of a different color... Not quite hopping into your Ford, turning the key and driving down to the store! It's even more impressive that they trained so many thousands of young men to do this in just a few years; I wonder how long it'd take an Xbox playing kid to learn all this?

@DR400 Start the right engine first? As opposed to starting the WRONG engine first? ;) So why is it that they say to start the right engine first? Does that have something to do with the "critical engine"? Or is it just a habit they tried to build in pilots, so they'd always follow the same routine? And out of curiosity, is that green-tinted glass over the cockpit "stock", or is that a post-war modification?
-
@DR400 unless a single engine...then a good pilot starts that one first as you can't fly without it....

Gotdamn... thats a real good aircraft! LOVE IT! B-25 Mitchell :D
