With Google Talk, you can now video or voice chat with your friends, family and colleagues right from your Android phone, whether they're on their compatible Android tablet or phone, or using Gmail with Google Talk on their computer. You can make calls over a 3G or 4G data network (if your carrier supports it) to stay connected while you're on the go, or over Wi-Fi.
Google Talk with video and voice chat will gradually roll out to Nexus S devices in the next few weeks as part of the Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and will be launching on other Android 2.3+ devices in the future.

Google Talk would make it incredibly easy for me to communicate with my Android using friends and family rather than having to rely on 3rd party apps like Facebook Messenger, Skype or Tango which require the user to either download the app or register for the service or both. Gtalk being pre-installed and only requiring a Gmail account makes the set-up and usability seamless. The problem with the adoption rate is the fact that the majority of Android users don't know what it is or what it can do

Point in case, there are millions of people out there using Android devices and like so I have many friends and family who use Android and they have a GMail account however a very small percentage of them use Google Talk and an even smaller percentage know what Google Talk is yet on most devices the App comes pre-installed. An Android user must launch the app and accept the usage before continuing. If this was part of the phone set-up the adoption rate would be immense.

I don't understand why Google doesn't make this app part of the standard android set-up like it's doing now with Google+. Google Talk is a great application that can basically be considered the iMessage and Facetime equivalent on Android. The Video and Voice chat capabilities on Google Talk are amazing! I don't know why this application isn't more mainstream.

The app is not on the play store. It should already be installed on your phone.
