My God, I never heard this song before, it is just beautiful and haunting. If Americans of Italian Ancestry had a vote for a National Anthem of Scotland, this would certainly get my vote.
This is how I always remember this song in its original. Lightly sung, a ballad but with a sense of defiance in it. Thats what gave it its strength. Now when I hear it at Scotland games its a foot stamping chant for people with too much to drink. How sad for what was a great wee song.
@wilsp Ulster Scots were Scottish planters who moved to the North of Ireland, people who live in N.I are sometimes referred to as Ulster Scots and have their own dialect. I doubt if Ulster Scots would ever fight against the crown as they would tend to be more British than any other part of the U.K whic is why Irish nationalists hate Ulster Scots. Scotland actually gets its name from the Irish Scotti tribe who invaded Scotland. We are all Celts at heart.
This is beautiful, I love it.

It would be absolutely facinating seeing this choir of men singing it in front of the English Queen!
No matter how much a front row would cost, i'd still pay to see it!
