Ya don't take advice from a dumbass ford lover. They're shit for trucks. Ur timing is probably a little off. But I'm not quite sure. I had an 85 Chevy truck 3/4 ton with a small block 400. It had the same type of problems. Actually worse. But I'm guessing it's the timing.

@m4army yes, push the chevy. why use so much gas, with their fuel economy (or lack therof),why put weight on a frame that is not even fully boxed, drive something with the handling of a steel suspension, risk a crash with no framing around the engine, and common steel for a louder ride. I see no problem with driving the ford, it has all the reverse of these problems...

you should of dropped it in the right spot then left it a little loose so you can turn it to set it the correct way.

kind of sounds like a bad camshaft ,or broken valve springs, or older HEI were a newer one shoud be used, the difference is the 1981 and up hei has secound connector for your computer,

Sounds like it keeps going out. maybe you need to invest in a new timing chain in the engine?
