Song: Siúil A Rúin
Artist: Anuna
Album: Celtic Origins

I wish I were
On yonder hill
Tis there I'd sit
And cry my fill

And every tear
Would turn a mill

I wish I sat on
My true love's knee
Many a fond story
He told to me

He told me things
That ne'er shall be

Siúil
Siúil
Siúil a rúin

Siúil go sochair
Agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus
Ealaigh liom

His hair was black
Hhis eye was blue
His arm was strong
His word was true

I wish in my heart
I was with you

Siúil
Siúil
Siúil a rúin

Siúil go sochair
Agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus
Ealaigh liom

I'll dye my petticoat
I'll dye it red
And round the world
I'll beg my bread

Till I find my love
Alive or dead

Siúil
Siúil
Siúil a rúin

Siúil go sochair
Agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus
Ealaigh liom

Siúil
Siúil
Siúil a rúin

Siúil go sochair
Agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus
Ealaigh liom

Siúil go doras agus
Ealaigh liom

  • People "became" Catholic because their choice was change or die. But they kept alive many of their pagan customs and a lot of their culture, including some old songs, and yes, many who sang these had no idea of the origins and meanings - but some did know!

  • @Juliek94

    Go go go my love

    Go quietly and peacefully

Go to the door and flee with me

And may you go safely my dear

    kind of "official" translation...

    Siuil Means Walk.

It's walk walk walk my love.

There is another version by Celtic Woman and the translation they use i beleive says Go in translations. But my aunt says it means Walk.

  • I got this off the translator and i'm not sure if it's accurate but if it's not then please do translate it.

    "Walk

    Walk

    Walk resolutions

    Walk to benefit

    And walking in quiet

    Walk to door and

    I escaped"

  • what does the chorus mean? :)

I really like this song :)

I only know 'agus' means 'and'.. (If I'm not mistaken lol)
