I have decided to create a new video series calling "Building a Bug Out Bag" that will show my process of redesigning my current Bug Out Bag (BOB) / 72-hour emergency backpack.

I'll be honest. My current B.O.B. absolutely sucks. It is extremely heavy, is completely unorganized, is missing key items, and is an embarrassing existence. I won't even show it to you guys.

I am planning on having my new B.O.B. be highly organized and functional. I plan on having all items stored in specific compartments, which I will be covering in the video series one by one. I plan on creating a R&D (research and development) video for each compartment, and then creating a finalized compartment video that shows what I decided on.

I am planning on using two main sources of inspiration in the creation of my new B.O.B. The first is Ultralight backpackers, as well as experienced "Thru-Hikers" (Ex: Erik The Black). This will help me achieve the goal I have of making a bag that is a lot lighter than my current one. The second inspiration are backpackers who carry lots of "Capabilities/Functionality", ala Nutnfancy. I am hoping to find a good balance between the two approaches.

I am really hoping that I can get a lot of quality input from the YouTube community, as I do not consider myself an expert in this field. I do consider myself an obsessive researcher, so whatever I come up with I know I will have studied diligently on. Hopefully, by the end of the series, I will have a new and improved Bug Out Bag that is highly functional, lightweight and is something I can be proud of for years to come. If this topic is uninteresting to you, or you find it stupid, please refrain from unnecessary or negative comments that will distract from the goal of this video series. I'm sure there are other YouTube videos that will better meet your entertainment needs.

I consider this project as family "Life Insurance". Yeah, I know I may never need to use this backpack. But I also may never need to use my Term Life Insurance either (in the near future at least). Just last night, I witnessed the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami unfold on CNN. I couldn't help but think, "I would sure want to have a good Bug Out Bag if I were over there right now". That horrific event is also helping me get motivation to prepare for an emergency, either nature or man made, to help me protect and care for my new family.

  • @MrBushLife LOL!! I keep my maps in my Personal/Entertainment compartment. You are right. Even when I am "finished" with this project, it will never be completed. Sincerely, "Mr. UP". :)

  • Currently building my 1st bug out bag. This a great Resource!

  • @superbob2 Good luck with your 1st bug out bag! I hope my videos will help assist you with your gear decisions. My 1st attempt at a BOB was a disaster. :)

  • Great video and very well thought out. If you haven't already you HAVE to check Anylitical Survial's channel. He's a damn genius. You'll get some great ideas from him.

  • @rowdybeaver33 AnalyticalSurvival is one of my favorites. I love his videos and everything he has prepared is a total inspiration for me. I especially love his long term food storage and caching videos. His survival videos are like college courses on prepping and survival with tons of information, tons of experience and a perfect delivery style (both verbal and written).

  • 1st Bob`s mostly are desasters it`look, listenLearn and then think if you need it for your enviroment and then start building

  • To streamline your urban tools get you a good Gerber or Leatherman tool. Also you can get a 6" pair of vise grips that will help with your cooking. Replace the tightening bolt with an eyebolt.

  • @TheUrbanPrepper Correct on all points friend. On a side note, I can't believe that I misspelled analytical. I hadn't reached my coffee quota for the morning when I made the comment. That's what I'm going to blame it on anyway.
