In 1957 I had a chance to catch Chuck Berry in concert at the CPS Field House in Tacoma. Mr. Berry strutted out on stage and proceeded to play these licks that literally made my hair stand on end. 'Oh God!' I thought, 'I've never heard anything like that!' After that concert I grabbed my guitar and played for days upon end to recreate THAT sound. These licks have been a signature sound used for many songs I've played with 'The Grape' and long after.
This Chuck Berry type lick consists of a series of major and minor intervals sliding on the 1st and 2nd strings. Play this lick with a lot of attitude by picking all down strokes to get more attack.
i didnt find that so psychedelic
