The Severn Valley Railway's Annual 'Autumn Steam Gala' during 2009 took place over Friday-Sunday, 25th-27th September, with me visiting on the Saturday of the event.

This years 'Autumn Steam Gala' did not have a theme but had lots of intresting scenes and a celebration. The celebration was the return to service of BR(M) 2-6-0 Ivatt Class 4 number 43106 aka 'The Flying Pig' after last seeing service in 1988. Visiting locomotives for the gala were GNR 'N2' Tank number 1744 (owned by the Gresley Trust and based at the Great Central Railway), GWR 'Hall' number 4936 'Kinlet Hall' (from Tyseley, ending a summer visit), GWR 56xx 'Taffy' number 5643 (owned by the Furness Railway Trust and based at the Llangollen Railway) and BR(M) 'Mickey Mouse Tank' number 41241 (owned by and based at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway). This event saw all three surviving Ivatt designs working. Throughout the weekend they could be found in various combinations double heading. Also returning for the event was Port Talbot Saddle Tank number 813, who was mainly employed on the Goods train.

The Full line up was -

| Port Talbot Railway 0-6-0ST 'Saddle Tank' number 813
| GNR 0-6-2T 'N2' Tank number 1744
| GWR 2-6-2T 45xx 'Small Prairie' Class number 4566
| GWR 4-6-0 49xx 'Hall' Class number 4936 'Kinlet Hall'
| GWR 2-6-2T 5101 'Large Prairie' Class number 5164
| GWR 0-6-2T 56xx 'Taffy Tank' number 5643
| GWR 0-6-0PT 57xx 'Pannier Tank' number 5764
| GWR 4-6-0 78xx 'Manor' Class number 7802 'Bradley Manor'
| GWR 4-6-0 78xx 'Manor' Class number 7812 'Erlestoke Manor'
| BR(M) 2-6-2T Ivatt Class 2 'Mickey Mouse' number 41241
| LMS 2-6-0 5MT 'Stainer Mogul' number 42968
| BR(M) 2-6-0 Ivatt Class 4 number 43106 aka 'The Flying Pig'
| BR(M) 2-6-0 Ivatt Class 2 'Mickey' number 46443

All engines appear at least once, apart from the 'Manors', as they were working the night shifts, and 5164 as she was 'spare'.

I attended the event with GJDobbzy, theonlyadsrulz, jakeyboygen, GWRDec and littlegiant18794 although I did bump into jamielw143 and randylandyrover.

The plan I carried out was -

| 0940 Kidderminster-Northwood Halt with 42968
| ex1054KR Northwood Halt-Hampton Loade with 46443 & 41241
| 1330 Hampton Loade-Bridgnorth with 5764
| 1453 Bridgnorth-Bewdley with 4566
| 1640 Bewdley-Highley with 1744
| 1723 Highley-Kidderminster with 5643

The gala had lots of variety and all the engines matched the stock they were hauling, so well done to the SVR for putting on such a show!
