I almost never use this adjective, but Hamelin is a real genious. His tone is wonderful, his phrases are intelligent, elegant, ultimately expressive and he plays clean as heaven. Most pianists avoid the repetititon, but Hamelin does it and I'm grateful for it. In the reexposition he gives us a surprise. The second theme he plays piano just as in the exposition, despite the great number of chords. His tempo is just perfect. What a pianist, gentlemen. What a pianist.
