  • what is the march at 4:45 ?

  • @Saulg21 I just thought it mildly humoruous that a company of big, tough guardsmen and the band need a civilian police escort, but it may be that the coppers are there to prevent stupid tourists from interfering with the parade and getting gun-butted to the pavement.

  • @Saulg21Thank you. I think you mean "Posse Comitatus" Act. It was passed in 1878 and was intended to prevent a repeat of federal troops occupying the former confederate states, which occured in the aftermath of the Civil War (War Between the States). The Act does not apply at all to state National Guard troops under federal control at all, which is why during the riots of the 1960s, National Guard troops were used to supress the riots.

Britain has no such law and the military can be used.

  • @bill1745 I am sure Britainn has a similar law as we do here in the States called, Comme Possitatis" ( The Force of the People). In November of 1870, the United States Congress made a law prohibiting the military from being used as law enforcement on civilians. The army , and navy are forbidden by order from Congress, and the marine corps and air force are forbidden by the department of defense. Only the Coast Guard is authorized to do this.

  • @hongbao Aside from the "keeping his hands to himself" yes it does.

  • @cpldoddsj

The sign indicates which Guards regiment is stationed at Victoria Barracks, not who is providing the Guard. The regiment which is stationed at Windsor changes from time to time.

The reason why we don't only see men from the Coldstream Guards is because of the Guards Incremental Companies, which provide permanent public duties.

Public Duties companies occasionally also provide the Windsor Castle Guard, which is otherwise provided by the battalion based at Windsor.

  • I always find it odd that the police have to escort a military band.

  • @cpldoddsj The plumes on the bearskins are white and the buttons are in one's. They are, therefore, Grenadier Guardsmen.

  • yh, its actually the 1st battlalion of the 7th company of the coldstream guards! i know this because it says it on the wall of the entrance to thier barracks on the right hand side!!

  • Thank you, windsorsoldiers, for the trouble you have taken in posting these videos. I find them delightful. God bless!
