This is the very first version of pundit's classic taken from the original tape.
Truly scintillating music with patriotic lyrics.
Vocals and music by Pundit him self and the lyrics by Mahagamasekara.
Thanks to my father and the radio Ceylon I am reproducing this version via the youtube which you may have not heard before or perhaps in the very early days. According to him this track was released around 1970.

The last segment (last 5 sec) of the song was broken but the rest is in top order.
The original radio Ceylon orchestra gives true quality music than one-man synchro-
Enjoy the music and lyrics

  • Thanks a lot for great work. This made me feel something I cannot explain in words. It would be extremely great if you could reproduce other songs that we cannot hear, like, mahaveli, wesivasina ahasa api, vasana, etc.

  • @eehdanes

Thanks for your appreciation. I have uploaded 'Mahaweli' song too and quite a few of Pundit Amaradeva's song including patriotic ones. Check my channel when you get time.

    regards

  • Dear Vidhura,

Is it the 'Batanalawa' at the beginning of the clip?

Then I can recognise the 'Thammatta' and 'xylophone'. So simple the lyrics, but how meaningful, they are.

Thanks for this lovely original from Pandit Amaradewa.

  • Yes, Its the batanalawa Tharu!

It really is a very meaningful song, what else can one can say about the art?

    thanks for your comment.

  • Hi Vidhura,

I am listening to this song after a long time. The freshness of a young Amaradeva's voice is - as you rightly put it - "scintillating" !

The music in this song makes me nostalgic of another great from Amaradeva - the theme from "Ran Muthu Duwa" - I can never get bored of listening to it plus Khemadasa's theme from "Golu Hadawatha "

    Thanks once again !

    Rgds

  • Shuaib,

Young Amaradeva's voice has so much passion in what he sings.

He really is an asset for us. vidhura

  • thanks for posting this! I used to listen to this song all the time at the Miyuru Gee website but now my computer won't download those files. I was craving to hear this song!!!!

  • Manel, The historians believe Anuradhapura era is the cornerstone of Sinhala history when it comes to archaelogy. When I went to Anurapura I felt bit like going to Cambridge or more than that. Its truly a great feeling to see what our forefathers have done. Thanks for your lovely comment.
