This is my Sony Vaio laptop on Ubuntu Linux. Bye-Bye Micro$oft and Bill Gates!

Everything works great - DVD's, Flash, MP3's... If you've been in fear of Linux, give Ubuntu a try -- lots of driver support and not the desktop of two or three years ago.

  • wow... u cant view youtube videos or perform flash..... that sucks balls

  • @pjmas Hello. Yes. You can view SW Flash and DVD's -- everything! It's not the Ubuntu of a few years ago! If you install 11.04 (code-named Natty Narwhal) and check-off install third party plugins it will be set the first time you open your browser.

I'll try to post how to install TrueCrypt and give you a view of YouTube on Ubuntu 11.04.

REALLY - Ubuntu is faster, your laptop will run cooler and it's more secure - PLUS - it's all FREE! :-)

  • What Bios do you have? H2O?

I have a Vaio and im trying to bual boot.

  • @Thesteaksause I wanted to get back to you right away... I'll check next time I boot-up...

You can try Ubuntu by putting the DVD in the drive and selecting "try Ubuntu" and you'll get a good idea if your networks, and most hardware work. Some things you won't be able to do are load flash to see youtube, etc.

I'll get back to you later today.

  • @Thesteaksause Vaio BIOS Version R1040Y3

  • You have always been able to watch and play flash content.

  • @photoxloan I want to note:

    1. I used a special CD created by a program called Windows Washer (Webroot) to do a wipe of the drive at DoD specifications prior to my instillation (you can do NSA wipe or higher).

    2. The actual encryption program is TrueCrypt - Easy Crypt is an interface for TrueCrypt.

    3. To the viewer of this video, I cannot stress enough how many "back doors" are open in all Windows systems to allow your information to be recovered; not so using Linux Crypt and BleachBit.

  • @kh2hbTV good to hear bro.. I had a compaq presario like in 2005 that the hard drive has crashed but when I tried ubuntu in it, it installed fine... yes I'm planning to migrate.. I'm just searching if this is really compatible.. have a good one!

  • @photoxloan Thanks for the comment and happy to help. Mine is VGN-NS2.. series Vaio. and no problems with any hardware and all audio/video is up and running. Linux is fast and it will add new life to an old laptop! Mine starts in about 15 seconds and shuts down in about 10 seconds. Ubuntu of today is not the same as it was three or four years ago and it's very user-friendly. Let me know how your instillation goes!
