  • Yikes. That answer from Rep. Moran is a socialist and collectivist response. The government creates nothing and can only steal from people in order to build these roads and provide education.

After all these years Mr. Helfeld, you're still getting people to walk away from your interviews. I've been following your work for years now. Great job!

  • stealing is stealing no matter WHO does it! its that simple either youy are FOR stealing or against it no grey area here. I for one am AGAINST stealing by government or anyone else.

  • The interviewer was incredibly stupid and promoted an idiotic viewpoint. The congressman was right to walk away from such a stupid line of questioning...

My goal is to help to remove the concept of "one size fits all" "top down" government from US politics. Think of it this way... California could have universal health care, and Texas or New Hampshire could become a volunteerism mecha... We would have the liberty to do both under Ron Paul. I see reduction of the federal government as a bridge towards the possibility of volunteerism. If indeed volunteerism proved to be the best way to maintain a state, other states would adopt it.

  • @masonkiller666

I'm not looking to end all government. I only seek to reign it in to it's constitutional scope to allow for MORE liberty. There is a fundamental need for use of force against those who impose on others (eg. police, courts, national defense, ect). Furthermore you can indeed repeal/augment any part of our government through "paperwork"... Up to and including changing the constitution. Allowing for states right will encourage volunteerism by proving decentralization works.

  • @dingusmungus False dichotomy. You can't end a massive, powerful, long lasting system just through paperwork. The philosophy must change. You cannot do that with legislation. Slavery would never be abolished in a place where nobody considers it morally wrong. FIRST the philosophy must change, THEN it can be applied to end evil. Currently the ideals of voluntaryism are not very popular, hence, nothing can be really solved this way.

  • @masonkiller666

So you oppose Ron Paul because it's either all or nothing? In other words you can't support anything, and everything would just need to stop for your ideological form of anarchism to start spontaneously. Good luck with that...

  • @dingusmungus Yes. Using government to end government is like murdering people to end murder. No matter what, one cannot try to change a system by joining that system. It doesn't work. If Ron Paul wins, yeah, government will shrink slightly, but everything is tipped against him. The entire system is designed for growth. Limited government is a myth.

Governments did not happen overnight. It was an incremental process. A volunteerist society will also not happen over night. It will also take a incremental process. A step in the right direction is a step in the right direction. Do you disagree with any of those points?

  • Help support Independent Jason Howell running for congress in 2012.

  • Why must we link taxes to some sort of social engineering in this country? Just get rid of the current system and have a Federal sales tax. It needn't be regressive towards lower income people if you make certain items that are necessary for life, such as food and basic clothing, exempt. For those Keynesian out there, you can link the rate to GDP. Should it fall, you can lower the rate and stimulate the economy, when it rises-so does the rate. End the madness of our current tax code!

  • The rich pay more far more taxes to fund infrastructure and defense than the poor. So, how is that justification for stealing from the rich AND everyone else?
