Back Away From The Wal-Mart

child abuse happens constantly when kids (and grownups) are forced to work for substandard pay in terrible conditions to make the crap sold in Wal-Mart. Yes there are victims. I wonder how indifferent folks would feel if each department was flanked by caged sweatshop workers trapped in their jobs barely surviving so we could have our snuggys or whateverthehell product.

@Jcolinsol I take nothing on forums or comment boxes seriously. This is just funny to me. As far as Goodwill or the other place that we dont have down here......why would i buy used when i can afford new?? I just think their whole stand on responsible shopping is low on the priority list when there are things much more important they could be putting their time and talent into. World Hunger, AIDs epidemic, child abuse.....there are tons of more important things than who is buying what a WalMart

Goodwill or St. Vinnie de Paul would be happy to sell you an old fashioned television. It's likely to last you longer than a brand new one too, thanks to planned obsolescence.
Of course you aren't supposed to take it seriously, it's a joke, a particularly tender and tragicomical one though.

@Jcolinsol They dont have the old school TVs anymore &yes I do NEED the Tv my son has to watch special videos for school.its not hard to shut something down, whether its legal or not is another issue. I dont mind the church's position. What gets on my nerves, is how they do it. I've showed these videos to others to see if maybe I'm just to close minded but every1 I have showed has said the same thing "Surely, these people dont think people are going to take this seriously?"

I think you have a point in wanting the sweatshops to be shut down, the question is how. By passing a law? Or by shopping ethically.
What they are preaching, is non-participation with a massively corrupt system. Be honest, you don't need that flat-screen television, you just want it.

@Jcolinsol who is the victim? People arent forced to shop. Its a choice and who are these people to preach their ways to people who dont care? I did watch the stop shopping documentary and I did some research on some of the stuff that was mentioned. Some true, some exaggerated. I look at it this way, if there is something that I need, them I'm buying it at the lowest price i can find. How about they focus less on getting people to stop shopping and more time getting those sweat shops shut down?

Blaming the victim are we?

I will enjoy my time in shopper hell with my 46 in flatscreen TV......lol Cuz Im sure all their clothes are made by elves.....lol

actually it does.one of jesus's mainproblems with his own religion/culture at the time was commercialism and hypocracy.remember the moneylenders in the temple?
what jesus said and what the '' christian'' church made of it are 2 different things. as rev. billy said; ' i love jesus, but he wasn't a christian.

Saw Reverend Billy in a small theater in the Lower East Side in the late 90's. It was a blast. I'm glad to see that he's really run with it and turning it into his life's work.

Mother father that godly mystery Will you come here and teach me When the lowest prices hit me Wal-Mart will it always reach me? Mother father that godly mystery Chorus Back away from the Wal-Mart back away Back away from that big box back away It's a union-busting sweat zone - (It's a sweat zone) Our neighborhood is our home - (our neighborhood's our home) Back away, back away, back away Back away, back away, back away Back up and pray
-
i don't think you get it. this doesn't have anything to do with jesus. or christianity for that matter. look deeper.

I love Rev. Billy and what he and his troupe are working for. Thanks, Rev, and please come back to Cedar Rapids again soon.
Maybe you can help people get right in their heads about what matters and what doesn't. We're all about the newest and greatest gizmo, and I think I have successfully tracked it all back to Bell Labs and their crummy transistor. It might go back before that, but anyway, keep on keepin' on!

omg, you have to be kidding LOL!!!!!
No, its not bull.
Rev Billy & The Church of Stop Shopping use cynicism and sarcasm to bring light to the dangers of rampant commercialism and unbridled materialism.
