Access to Public Places for Service and Assistance Dogs under the ADA

An excellent video describing access for Service and Assistance Dogs, produced by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. It was created by the AHLA's affiliate, the California Hotel & Lodging Association. It is also a helpful training video for police departments who may be called upon to help Service and Assistance Dogs gain access and/or issue citations to violators.

This video is not properly closed captioned. The "closed captions" provided with the video are descriptive in the beginning (annotations should have been used instead of the captions) and aren't captions of the actual speech. Some of what you are saying is true, other service animals have been excluded. The two questions allowed under this law are if the dog is required because of a disability and what work or tasks the dog is trained to perform.

The law changed in 2011 AFTER this video was uploaded. Because so many people were abusing the law by claiming their yap dogs and others were service dogs and people were buying "service vests" for their pets, the law is now much more restrictive and service "monkeys and other animals" are no longer considered service animals. Hotels, etc. are now allowed to ask more questions, including whether or not the dog is a pet and they are allowed to eject the animal if they discover it is a pet.

Very good video perhaps needs updating since dogs and miniature horses are the only animals allowed as service animals now. But other than that excellent.
