Car is a 1991 Honda Civic DX, d15b2 1.5 liter engine, 5 Speed Manual.

Around 75-70 Miles an hour after warm up on freeway can't keep a steady speed. Can keep throttle in one spot and engine will decelerate and seem to bog. If I press the pedal down little by little there is no change or the rpm jumping gets worse and the car decelerates a bit more. If I press the pedal all the way down it jumps everything straightens out and it accelerates hard. If I make it glitch enough I can get the service engine soon light to come on, the the symptoms then lessen, but just last night it wouldn't stop doing it and I was forced to either go 60mph or 80mph if I went in between it would glitch to bad to hold a steady speed and cause the engine to run rough. If I downshift to 4th gear the same symptoms happen at the same speed, so it leads me to believe it's the speed sensor if this car even has one, I don't know. I know my speedometer is mechanical.

ANY help is appreciated but please don't give recommendations if you don't know fully what you are talking about. I'm no mechanic but I'm mechanically inclined and can learn anything, I can't afford to pay a mechanic to diagnose this, that's why I bought a used honda they are cheap and good on gas.

  • i have the same exact car and the same problem,. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

  • @vtep1 Problem came back at another RPM, I check connections inside the distributor, those little wire connectors tightened them and advanced the timing a bit and it all went away. Flawless. Not sure which one solved the problem.

  • @somedudeandacomp Came back, never fixed the problem! came back a week later. Changed to MPFI still does it a little.

  • How do you install the tachometer to the car? Did you drag a cable all the way from transmission?

  • @MrBS4 You need to wire the tach with a few wires... one has to connected to the distributor coil, one is for battery power (unswitched and always on) This is to hold memory of the led backlit color u have chosen, one is ignition power and one is ground. I tapped into the fusebox for all my power, such as, cigarrete lighter circuit turns the tach on, Marker light circuit turns on the backlight, etc

  • @somedudeandacomp o2 sensor

  • @tubofweed sorry it's not the o2, the problems been already fixed as mentioned in the comments, I also tried the o2 before this video
