the thing should be 1

At last! Someone else who appreciates the genius of Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt Russell's work with Carpenter is always worth watching, and in "Trouble" it's simply fantastic. "The Thing" as #3? Hmmm....I have to think about that. I'd put it right next to "Trouble", I think, with "Prince of Darkness" rounding out the trio.
I was lucky enough to see these films when they came out. Yet even now they don't seem dated or tired. Classics, pure and simple.

I think Halloween is Carpenters best film but I have to agree with you about how good Big Trouble in Little China is! One of the most badass and fun movies I have ever seen. Great top 10 by the way.

Big Trouble and Prince of Darkness are always underrated. Good for you for making Big Trouble number one. I can still remember seeing Big Trouble in the theater.

Big trouble no1, your mad, stop smoking the whacky backy & no starman either...nuts

Halloween i think set one of the standards for the unkillable monsters. That i would place at number one. 2. They Live for the fact that in a sense our world today often feels like this film. 3. Prince of Darkness today the film is quite scary and also as a kid one of the few that scared me. 4. Christine for the concept the idea all out incredible. 5. Big trouble in Little China for the comedy some truth factor as a kid everyday to laugh 6. The fog most def a great knock knock. 7. The Thing.

At first I disagreed with Big Trouble being No.1 as opposed to The Thing, but considering what movie of his I still prefer to watch among the others and being a huge fan of his work, it's Big Trouble, hands down. Every one I have recommended it to, tells me that they enjoyed it tremendously and would watch it again, even if they weren't Carpenter fan's.

@Areashiftybun Ahh Lucky Bastard!! :L Great voice btw :)

Even if I like The Thing along with Starman, perhaps even Christine, those films and some of his others like The Fog are more like films that could be made by many other directors. I am not saying that anyone could or would make it the way Carpenter would but I am more convinced that films like Dark Star, Escape from New York, Escape from L.A., They Live, perhaps Prince of Darkness and especially Big Trouble in Little China would never be made by anyone else then Carpenter.

@Areashiftybun tbh 'ghosts of mars was a good storyline... i just think A) some of the actors in it were poor and B) the CGI kinda ruined it, had they gone with more of the effects like in 'the thing' and used some actors with more experience then it would have been several times better.

Escape from New York (first one I saw) -> Big Trouble -> Assault on Precinct 13 -> Halloween -> Prince of Darkness
Of all the ones I've seen.
Failing to place: The Thing (oh look, some disgusting special effects...cheers for that), They Live.

@MrDizzie123 Thanks very much I appreciate that. Yeah Halloween is really brilliant. I got to watch at a local cinema recently, and it was even better on the big screen!

The Thing is such a great movie, one of the last without CGI, i have to say i also enjoyed Vampires, i've saw it multiple times.

@TheNoodle97 Yeah, The Thing is incredible, I watch it regularly, so brilliantly shot with such a creepy atmosphere. A lot of people have commented that it should have been #1 on my list, it's certainly his 'best made'. Vampires has grown on me over the years, while most think 'Ghosts of Mars' is Carpenter's poorest, I actually think Vampires is poorer, it's the only Carpenter flick I felt suffered from the budget, but still enjoyable.

I loved Big Trouble in Little China, I used to watch it when I was 5 and was just pulled in, I recently watched it again multiple times and now understand the comical undertone and how truly awesome this movie is. You don't see Spielberg jamming out and making music for his movies : D John you rock.
