  • They are very talented. What a shame they didn't play real music until the very end of the video. I would have loved to hear some more music that you can follow, not this new nonsensical junk. I have been hearing this stuff at football games and it is awful. It isn't music, it's just a bunch of chords that you can't get into because it has no direction. You can't tap your feet to it because it isn't going anywhere. As a former marching band member, I can't imagine it is very much fun to play.

  • @KMW52 Time out. So Georges Bizet's Carmen isnt "real" music? So only Sousa type marches count as real music? The drum feature was written by one of the Marines in the group. So he can't write real music? I respect your view. But let us agree to disagree. I've played charts from Sousa to Mangione and it's all been fun to play. I just don't agree with your viewpoint.

  • @EJL88 It's music you just can't follow because it has no real direction to it. I've been to several college & pro games when this type of music is played and people became very disinterested. I realize some wouldn't care what was played, but I've noticed a lot more interest when the music is something you can follow (Sousa is a good example by you). If this is from Carmen, I must have missed it. I wasn't commenting on the drums, just the musical portion in the first part of the video.

  • @KMW52 Yes, the first part is Carmen. Cool, I follow you now. Some groups have gone towards music that just isn't interesting. Groups in DCI come to mind. Cool having a dialog about this. Some people on here get mad when you disagree with their viewpoint. Thanks.

  • @KMW52 I am a former member of The Comandant's Own and I am also one of the old fart DCI alumni (LOL) so I agree with what you are saying but it doesn't really apply here. This video picks up halfway through the show during the drum solo. It sounds kind of strange because our entire "Pit" consist of only two bells players. You sort of went off on a tangent (ha ha), a valid point, just doesn't apply to us.

  • @dcraig1865 I only had so much video time on my camera. Plus I wanted to get shots of the whole presentation. Who Take care and thanks for serving our country!

  • Probably no harder than any top Div I, oops I mean World Class, drumline. The only catch is you have to be a Marine and all that goes with that title and honor.

  • @maverck95 Whatever. If it makes you happy, then good for you. :) It's still a rhythm you cannot follow or even tap your toes to. It goes nowhere.

  • @KMW52 man the stuff now days has more rithom than what was back then man it was boring its great now

  • @KMW52 Perhaps you can only follow the music's direction, when it's leading you around like the sound of the ice cream truck.

  • @TimmyJ17 Tim, I did enjoy the last part where they were actually played music! The 1st part consists of talented noise. It isn't music at all, but just a jumble of sound. You can't sing it or hum it because it is just a jumble of notes. I never said these Marines aren't talented, I said I prefer to hear them play true music, as they do at the end. Listen to the crowd. When they finished the jumbled mess, they received polite applause. When they finished real music, the applause was much greater

  • @tokiri like the one that accompanied custer before Crazy Horse scalped his sorry ass...Nothin more intelligent than announcing your arrival????Go figure you redneck fuck

  • wow

  • they are playing to old people. enough said.

  • I wish they still did the sunset parade at the Iwo Jima monument that was always a fantastic place to see their performance

  • @KMW52 wow get over yourself and actually enjoy music that is obviously beyond any sort of talent you could ever dream of having

  • I found great irony in Indianapolis at the finals last year (2010) that this group played a large selection of music from the rock musical "Hair". Marines playing tunes from a 1960's anti-war, anti-establishment play. Groovy......
