http://ow.ly/aHGVv - The very rare Fisheye-Nikkor 6mm f/2.8 has caused an internet sensation since its acquisition and subsequent sale by Grays of Westminster was first reported by Amateur Photographer magazine. In this exclusive footage shot recently in the vintage department at Grays of Westminster, the 6mm can be seen fitted to a black finish Nikon F Apollo camera in its special case. Later in the film the 6mm is shot fitted to a Nikon D800, possibly for the first time ever and footage shot taken with this combination.

Nikon stunned the photographic world at Photokina in 1970 by introducing the 220º Fisheye-Nikkor with an astonishing speed of f/2.8. It is the world's most extreme wide-angle lens to cover the 24 x 36mm image area (at the time) with a massive glass dome which dwarfs the camera attached. The 6mm is for scientific and industrial applications and special effects when shooting portraits, architecture and interiors, etc.

Lens production began in March 1972 and it was only made available to special order. This lens's technical specifications are:

Thanks for shooting some imagery with it and sharing it with the crowd. Gray provided me an appraisal on my 8mm 2.8 Fisheye-Nikkor and I used it on some cathedrals in Europe. Perhaps some pictures that I took with it posted on Panoramio (user Edgy01) may give you some ideas in how to use it

I have a copy of that lens.

The 100.000 pounds you got for it sounds ridiculous... I paid around 8000 USD for it back in 1980.

Any idea where i should sell it?

Why oh why would you ship a lens that big and heavy attached to a body?

I had seen and handled one of these lenses at a camera shop in Vancouver Canada back in the 1990s - unfortunately I noted that it had a big scratch in the front of the domed glass element. The shop keeper said "it does not affect the image", but it certainly affected the value and the price!

when the lens cap goes on, it becomes sharper. it seems that this lens just wasn`t focussed corectly.

Such a shame the lens doesn't appear to be very sharp. But man is that cool!
