GAS FACT: Slowing from 75 to 55 mph boosts gas mileage 33 percent in both sedans & large SUVs. On Sunday, July 6, 2008, I set my cruise control to 55 mph, turned on my Flip video camera, & entered the south-bound 101 Freeway at the base of the Conejo Gade in Camarillo, California. I filmed for over one hour, traveling toward Orange County. My quest? To see if fellow motorists were saving gas & cash by driving 55 mph. And my findings? Watch the following video........................

  • By FAR the dumbest fucking video I have EVER seen. Yeah let's all drive 55 and watch our economy go even further down the tubes.

This speed limit is not GAS or SAFETY related.

It is TAX revenue for the state via police depts.

Jimmy Carter passed the law of 55, and also said, states can choose whether or not they would like to have it, but it they did NOT choose it, they would receive NO federal highway money.

Seems to me this is just another dumb liberal video

  • 重要想法的類可以在您的地方社区學院找到。 谢谢。

  • results from her experiment show that gas prices are NOT high, just because media says gas prices are high, just because they went from $3 to $4 it does not mean anything,

people adapt, they go from V8 to 4 cylinder, they figure out ways to drive less,

stop whining like CNN and FOX do, those clowns need something to bark at,

has anyone been affected by the so called "high gas prices", really, have you?

  • The results revealed that drivers are not slowing down to speeds that have been proven to not only save gas and money, but also reduce enormous amounts of carbon emissions spewing into our atmosphere.

How have high gas prices affected the U.S. population? Please watch another video that I created, GAS CRISIS: Interviews w/Gas Station Patrons, Orange, CA USA.

    Respectfully,

  • @mom4education The primary cause of Co2 emissions is not the private motorist. it is commercial vehicles, trains, places and industry..

Cars can essentially be ignored when calculating Co2 emissions. Even if we stopped all private motorists worldwide from driving the CO2 emissions would fall less than 1%.

Ironically you are suggesting we add more cost to commercial delivery times... which would exacerbate that problem.

What is required is overall efficiency in combustion technology.

  • CONT.

    6. The entire working population of the USA would spend more time driving and less time in work or at home.

    7. Traffic jams would increase since the road system is designed to cope with a specific volume at rush hour (not that there is any rush in rush hour to begin with)

    8. The entire traffic light system in and out of cities would require modification.

    9. Road maintenance would rise by MORE than 33%

    10. Insurance costs would rise.

    11. The second hand car market would implode!

  • CONT. So the overall result if everyone was to do this would be the following.

    1. There would be more cars on the road for longer since everyone would take longer to get from A to B.

    2. The fuel consumption would be the same, or more, even if it is more efficient (which is not likely)

    3. More cars on the road for longer will result in more RTA's

    4. Cars will suffer degradation at a faster rate since they are operating longer.

    5. Consumer goods delivery prices would rise by more than 33%

  • Can I just mention here the obvious problem with this methodology. I'm not questioning the accuracy of the statistic that one would save 33% in fuel.

The speed reduction will have you arrive at your destination obviously 30% later than you would otherwise do spending more unpaid hours driving.

Next you might save 33% on gas and engine efficiency but will take longer therefore more fuel overall (regardless of how efficiently you use that fuel) in the first place to arrive at your destination.

  • The only time driving fast wastes gas is when you're hanging in high rpms, you can be cruising at 75 mph, and still be driving efficiently, just as long as your RPMs aren't high.

  • driving 55mph (about 90km/h) in Germany the police might pull you over for unnecessary slow driving (also at a maximum speed limit of 100km/h (65mp). The traffic police from state police services don't just look for speeders but also the to slow ones that also cause dangerous situations in traffic.

btw on parts of the german freeways without speed limit there's a recommened speed of 130km/h (about 80 mph).

  • @USAon3 Richard Nixon was a full blooded communist!!!

  • Go fuck your "drive 55 stay alive" communist symphothising self!!!

  • Umm, the national 55 limit was passed in 1973 under Nixon in response to the first oil embargo. Please read before spewing opinion as fact.

The reason it didn't save as much gas or lives as was projected is because there was such low compliance with the law. Then people whined when they earned themself a ticket for speeding. This is the flawed logic used by the speeders as to why 55 didn't work.
