They always sound better with lower production value or on live recordings. It enables the music to retain it's punk rock feelings, aesthetically.

@CHVNX I agree. I have a few live versions on mp3 that I liste to far more often than the actual album tracks, like Gotta Get Away and The Kids Aren't Alright.

Yeah, umm, well, those songs are from when they started to sound like shit and water down their music for mainstream audiences (television and top 40) which is fucking bullshit. I hate cock washing rock stars. I was referring to their first 7" and the Maniac Subsidial material.

@CHVNX haha. oh WHOOPS. Strong punk roots you've got, huh? I used to shun popular music, too, but I've gotten more lenient about it. Don't get me wrong, I still hate Green Day and Fall Out Fags (and pretty much most MTV "punk"). Offspring really isn't the same at all anymore, but I still like them for some reason. Either way, your original point still fits, wheher it's the old punk cheaply recorded or the stuff you hate by them, also cheaply recorded.
