Steven Pressfield's quintet of acclaimed, bestselling novels of ancient warfare—Gates of Fire, Tides of War, Last of the Amazons, The Virtues of War and The Afghan Campaign—have earned him a reputation as a master chronicler of military history, a supremely literate and engaging storyteller, and an author with acute insight into the minds of men in battle. In KILLING ROMMEL Pressfield extends his talents to the modern world with a WWII tale based on the real-life exploits of the Long Range Desert Group, an elite British special forces unit that took on the German Afrika Korps and its legendary commander, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, "the Desert Fox."

Honestly i really like Steven Pressfield, he is a brilliant writer, but this short movie was not that exact. What really beaten the Rommel, was lack of supplies, due to british attacks on german convoys from Malta. His tanks were unable to move becouse they had no fuel+ammunition. And Germans didn´t conquered Malta, due to lack of resources and soldiers becouse of operation Barbarossa, that was strike on soviets...And Monty was almost totaly incompetent...Patton and Alaxander did some nice stuf

Your narration is interesting though rather vague. You fail to mention that Rommel´s real setback was the lack of fuel for his tanks, food, ammunition and supplies for his troops. His Italian allies, though brave, lacked good leadership and, worse, often he had to share what little he had with them. Read books THE DESERT FOX - and THE ROMMEL PAPERS - packed with letters to his wife where he often wrote about the lack of fuel and supplies. I think this information should be added to your vid.

I would say Judge Rommel on his career as a whole, in the battle of Caporroto in WW1 he won a great victory, he then went on to win an important tactical victory at Sedan in 1940 he had the quick wit to convert 88mm AA guns to anti-tank artilliary and won the day. The same 88mm guns were then used for the Tiger Tank. Pressfield you appall me your books must be ghost written

"thats what Rommel did in Germany in the Blitzkreig" what on earth does that mean? I presume he meant France in 1940? Is this Stephen Pressfiled the author speaking? I respect the author but that is a stupid comment to make. And hang on when the narrator said that the allies were living on "bully beef and biscuits" did he think the Afrika Korps were eating caviar? The Germans never enjoyed more supply in Africa than the Allies at any time - tell us about the Kassarene pass Steve!

Yeah the great victory in north africa and at el-alamein where we overcame extreme odds to defeat an enemy with no fuel and who was outnumbered 5 to 1.

You can be a great strategist without being a great general but you can't be a great general without being a great strategist. Rommel was one of those great generals as was Monty and Patton.

They were only lost because of the little fucking corporal who hated Rommel, your British and you should read what Churchill said of Rommel, I am not saying he was the greatest of all Generals but according the the fucking Wikepedia he was one of the worst, thats total bullshit, he was one of the best of all the german generals and one of the top 5 of all WWII generals now that statement is accurate and I spoke to General Pattons son who also stated the same!

I guess you forgot about his recommendations to the little corporal on how to defend Europe and the importance of the African campaign would have been great if he had control of Africa and done what he wanted to go into Iraq and Iran and taken control of the oil. Things might have changed. By the way your a FUCKING IDIOT so go to hell you little asswiper!

Dig harder and you will realise that you are a fuck. You can't outright state that Rommel was 'the greatest' considering there are so many variables to take into account, the African campaign had minor relevance to the war - other German generals on the Eastern fought campaigns on a far greater scale than Rommel. It is arguable that he was not a great Field Marshall as all the campaigns that he led as an FM were lost, he was far more successful as a divisional commander as the wikipage says.
