Motorists maneuver through the large clumps of seaweed deposited on the West Island Causeway from the December 12,2008 coastal storm. Braving the causeway with waves and sea spray crashing over may be exciting but it is devastating to a vehicles under carriage and body. One trip like this can add years (lots of years) to a vehicles wear and tear., along with electrical problems. (TIP: Don't buy a used car from West Island!)The causeway is only 3 feet above sea level., so when southerly gales approach with a full moon tide the causeway can become briefly impassible. However a potent hurricane can take it out significantly. For more details on this storm and live weather updates visit http://www.westislandweather.com
