No extra work is requires...bcuz You don't even have to move around when you reach the end boss....just sit to the far left at the middle of the screen...while the pod hurts the boss.
I'm sure... that's the only way I could finish at the arcade. The two indestructible things always converged on my ship after a while, but escape was possible by moving the ship around in a circle, assuming you had picked up the speed-up. I could never finish by putting the force inside -- the green things would get me before the boss died, despite that occasionally I survived for a good while.
are you sure? in the original arcade, if you do not get the force in there on first open, but on second open, the swirling invincible enemies collapse on you and kill you (impossible to escape) before the boss dies
Good one... nice maneuvering at the end. At the arcade, there was no need to put the force in that big bastard -- it died by itself eventually, and keeping the force on the ship made things a bit easier with the little green bastards.

Yes, it was doable without any earlier speed-ups (actually not much harder than arriving with a full weapons complement, if I recall correctly).

was it possible on restart of the last level, with the (i think only one) speedup available? or did you need speedups from previous levels?
