Obi Wan needs NO ground

Let me explain, Obi Wan is like a Womble Jedi. In episode 1 he owns Darth Maul from the low ground...yet finds it reasonable to state to Anakin that he stands no chance having the low ground. Also...I just want to throw this out there does anyone else think that grievous was down played?
