When I saw this recipe in one of my old Hawaiian cookbooks, I thought that it sounded awesome. I wondered how it was going to cook up as fudge, but in the end, it looked and smelled a lot like brownies with cheesecake swirled in and that is what the guys ended up calling it anyway, so ... brownies it is lol I will be making this soon for us so I can try it.
1 c. margarine or butter
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2-1/2 c. sugar
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped walnuts
2 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg (8 oz) cream cheese softened (if you don't have time to wait for it to soften, zap in microwave 20 seconds)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt margarine and chocolate (I did it in microwave for 2 min); beat in 2 c. sugar and 3 eggs until well blended. Stir in flour, salt, walnuts and 1 tsp. vanilla. Spread evenly in greased 9x13 pan. Mix cream cheese, remaining 1/2 c. sugar, 1 egg and 1 tsp. vanilla at low speed until just mixed; increase speed to medium and beat 2 minutes. Pour cream cheese mixture on top of batter. Bake 40-45 minutes. Will keep in refrigerator up to one week.
