Some people put way too much stock in terms like "target schools". A Texas student with a great GPA does not automatically beat out a student with a great GPA from another top tier school. Most companies would look as seriously at a Texas grad as they would somebody from say, Ole Miss or Kansas.

Actually, Berkeley has more top-10 departments than any university in the nation, with 32. UT is a phenomenal school as well, but UCB is the only school to lay claim to that feat.

Well, if you look at US News (the generally accepted ranking of US Universities), you'll see that Texas has more top 10 majors than any other university. More importantly, if you look at where companies hire, you'll find that Texas is one of the few "target schools" of the best companies in the world.

under that same link, "top 500 WORLD universities"...Berkeley is 3rd, Cambridge is 4th, and Texas is 39th. Obviously it's not only North American countries.
