The Bunker Show - Spike Milligan 1988 (Part 1 of 4)

Roland Rivron interviews Spike Milligan for 'The Bunker Show', a strand of ITV's 'Night Network'. Guests were invited to choose what music, films and comedy shows they'd take with them to the fall-out shelter in the event of a four-minute warning.

An interesting (and occasionally uncomfortable) mismatching of comedy generations, with Milligan keen to make his host feel as uncomfortable as possible, dismissing all alternative comedians as being obsessed with matters "below the waist", and Rivron clearly in no great hurry to bow to his comedy elder in any way!

Brilliant sot, I've been looking for this for years. FYI It was originally shown in the early hours of Christmas Day 1988 and I taped it because I had a DJ gig that night so I was able to watch it over and over again; sadly the video in question disappeared a long time ago, so I’m delighted to have stumbled upon it again! The Cleo Rocos one a few weeks later was also quite good (despite the fact that Rivron spent most of the programme asking her to get her kit off...)

@docscrote No probs. Wasn't that keen on the Freddie Starr one so I didn't keep it - I think he was off the booze at the time so the usual descent into drunkeness was lacking. Got the Cleo Rocos one here somewhere though. I'll dig it out at some point.

why would you get spike on the show just to be rude? what a waste of time. watch Room 101 with spike instead.

Rivron had the interviewing/hosting skills of a dead stoat in a block of ice. He's interviewing someone who is not only is considered the father of British alternative comedy, but who is also an accomplished musician, and writer, and yet he sits there looking bored off his tits as if he doesn't want to be there (or is that the "joke"?). He later refers to Spike as a "pratt" in another video. If he had achieved 10% of what Spike had, then he might be on TV now!
