Memories of Japanese war crimes continue to poison Japan's relations with its neighbours. Many Chinese are still suffering the effects of a vicious campaign of germ warfare.

"Our unit did things no human being should ever do," confesses Unit 731 member Yoshio Shinozuka. His unit developed the deadly pathogens which were used to infect 250,000 Chinese. Japan's refusal to apologise for its actions, or to acknowledge Unit 731's existence, has further upset its victims.

Unit 731 (731 部隊, Nana-san-ichi butai?) was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that undertook lethal human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (19371945) and World War II. It was responsible for some of the most notorious war crimes carried out by Japanese personnel. Officially known by the Imperial Japanese Army as the Kempeitai Political Department and Epidemic Prevention Research Laboratory, it was initially set up under the Kempeitai military police of the Empire of Japan to develop weapons of mass destruction for potential use against Chinese, and possibly Soviet forces.

731部队是舊日本軍（關東軍）防疫給水本部的別名。該單位由石井四郎所領導，因此也稱之為「石井部隊」。731部队也是在抗日战争（1937年－1945年）和第二次世­界大战期间，侵华日军从事生物战细菌战研究和人体试验相关研究的秘密军事医疗部队的代称。

731部隊（ななさんいちぶたい）とは大日本帝国陸軍の関東軍防疫給水部本部の事。関東軍管轄区域内の防疫・給水業務を行うことを目的に設置された。細菌・化学戦研究の為­に生体解剖などを行ったとされている。初代部隊長の石井四郎（1892年 - 1959年、陸軍軍医中将）に因んで石井部隊とも呼ばれる。731部隊は捕らえた多くの中国人、モンゴル人捕虜等をマルタ（丸太）と呼称し、人体実験・生体実験に供したと­言われている（「悪魔の飽食」による。この書物の真偽はここでは問わない。）。終戦後にソ連・中国が行なった調査では、犠牲者数は3000人以上とも推定されている。 毒ガス・細菌兵器等の使用は国際条約で禁止されていたが、のちに同部隊の部隊長となる石井四郎は、軍事技術研究のために欧州各国を周遊後、それらの有効性（特にそのコスト­パフォーマンスに関して）に注目し、帰国後に化学兵器や細菌兵器が日本にとって有用であるとし軍部に働きかけ、防疫研究室設置された。

一方、BC戦術を使用する側にとっての観点において防疫活動が重要な要素であり、一般戦術においても有用であることから、これを主に軍内部のおいての名目とし、防疫給水部­の名称で組織が発足することになる。表向きの看板とは言え、防疫活動は防疫給水部の重要な研究要素であり、731部隊においても防疫活動研究班が設置され成果を挙げている­（石井式濾水機は実際に部隊運用されることになる）。

not to mention those nukes were really life savers and peacemakers. they saved millions of both U.S. and jap casualties invading the mainland of Japan, and the world learned in that year that the world should never see that kind of weapon used ever again. Given the circumstances, two nukes were justifiable

I think to preserve their honor these soldiers should commit suicide after confessing their war crimes. Their beheading after committing sepuku would serve as a warning to potential war criminals.Hirohito was a rotten little faggot who got away with killing millions of people including his own. He worried more about his family's fortune than the Japanese people who loved and died for that little ugly worm. How can the Japanese be so stupid to support him and his parasitic family?

The records of Unit 731 were taken by the US after the war in exchange of release of the person in charge of the unit, Gen. Lieutenant Shiro Ishii, who was not thrown into jail and lived long after the war happily.
