Quickly done video to mainly show the quick way to swap out the front TT gears (primarily the trick to transferring the front umbrella gear bearings to the replacement). I'm sure most know the trick, but if you don't, this is how to do it. If you're interested in how hard it would be to swap out the TT or front TT gears (rear ones will pretty much never strip) in a 450 Pro, you might want to watch the video. This video was shot on one of those $15 keychain cameras from HK bought off ebay...

  • I have a T-Rex 450 pro and the front TT tooth is missing. Would this cause the violent shake she is having?

  • @sborn1571 slight damage to the front umbrella gear will generally just make noise and not affect flight, but if you know it's damaged, I'd change it anyway

  • Probably weight, cost, and metal on metal will wear faster than the nylon gears.

  • Nice job and thanks for posting this. I recently bought one, but it has the big tail servo and mounts under the gear box. I had a tail strike and now have to replace the front gear as you've shown here. I did note that my piro rate is much slower in one direction then the other, any thoughts on how I can fix that and make them more even? Also, what about lube for the plastic gears and the bearings, should we be lubing them?

    Thanks again

  • @rsdaskoski The piro rate can be adjusted by your rudder channel endpoints / ATVs, but make sure your gyro limits allow the full control throw. You could do something like 110 for your left rudder ATV and 130 for your right to help even out the piro rates

I like to use a little 100% silicon oil (like car shock oil) to help slide the bearings on the plastic umbrella gears, but I don't lube the actual gears. Lube the swash, washout, tail slider, thrust bearings, and possibly motor/main bearin

  • Finless Bob on the HF forums added that after replacing the bearing using this method to check them to insure they weren't damaged. These bearings fit relatively loose compared to the T600 TT bearings (so this method works well), but any bearing can be damaged when tapping them in or out/on or off.

  • thanks for making this video! I just had a light bump on the tail and stripped the torque tube gear. everything else is fine though!

  • High Ken, just want to say thanks. Mines a RTF 450pro so I didn't have the luxury of putting it together! and then knowing how to take it apart and proceed with the gear replacement. Now I do, so Ken, many thanks.

  • @Randomshit1353 because 1 it's costly and 2 you would have to grease metal on metal gears every single flight, time consuming, expensive, not worth it at all.

  • It is very easy. And, you do no t have to remove the tail boom supports.

    So, one less step.
