See all 11 parts!!! Arguably the most intelligently written film to feature the masterful stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen, Jason and the Argonauts is a colorful adventure that takes full advantage of Harryhausen's "Dynarama" process. Inspired by the Greek myth, the story begins when the fearless explorer Jason (Todd Armstrong) returns to the kingdom of Thessaly to make his rightful claim to the throne, but the gods proclaim that he must first find the magical Golden Fleece. Consulting Hera, the queen of gods, Jason recruits the brave Argonauts to crew his ship, and they embark on their eventful journey. Along the way they encounter a variety of mythic creatures, including the 100-foot bronze god Talos, the batlike Harpies, the seven-headed reptilian Hydra, and an army of skeletons wielding sword and shield. This last sequence remains one of the finest that Harryhausen ever created, and it's still as thrilling as anything from the age of digital special effects. Harryhausen was the true auteur of his fantasy films, and his brilliant animation evokes a timeless sense of wonder. Jason and the Argonauts is a prime showcase for Harryhausen's talent--a wondrous product of pure imagination and filmmaking ingenuity.

  • @gussiejives Exactly, things just look better when there's something actually in front of the camera

  • poor blind guy those monsters never let him eat peacefuly until jason came

but yeah zeus is an asshole alright!!!

  • You know, watching this, I gotta say that even the stop motion animation ages better than a lot of the CGI these days, with the possible exception of Avatar. CGI comes off as too cartoony, while the textures achieved with these models are perfect. Sometimes the motion can be limited, but I'll take these over CGI any day.

  • this movie freaked the crap out of me when i was a little kid. :D haha!

  • One of the Harpies looks a little like a rich old bat that owned part of a car dealership where I worked!! What a toad!!!

  • @MPT1983 how did they get such a large net? haha, you have to give some concessions to these things ;)

  • So why didnt one of the argonauts just kill them with a well aimed spear throw or arrow, they move slow enough lol

  • hmmm.. they dont look as a harpy,, I think thats a demon, having blue skin and a wings of a bat, I'm sure thats a demon, because if it is a harpy, it should have wings of a bird not a bat wings and not blue skin it should be a feather

  • Great music for the netting scene.

  • @pantstelly93 I thought the bird women were Sirens
